Who we are?
The Southern Ocean Conservation & Governance Group at the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity at the University of Oldenburg (HIFMB) is an association of working groups dedicated to protecting and responsibly managing the Southern Ocean. Our efforts align with the Antarctic Strategy of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), specifically relating to „Knowledge transfer for sustainable management of human presence in Antarctica".
Our aim is to bring together researchers, policy-makers, and conservationists to promote sustainability and informed decision-making for the future of Antarctica’s unique ecosystems.
